An Urgent Appeal for Educational Resources in the Philippines: A Letter to The President
Office of the President
of the Philippines
Malacañang
HONORABLE PRESIDENT FERDINAND "BONGBONG" MARCOS JR.
President of the Republic of the Philippines
Malacañang Palace, Manila
Dear Mr. President,
I am composing this letter to express my thoughts on the existing problems regarding educational resources across our nation, the Philippines. As a student who directly faces these challenges at school, I hope for my voice to be acknowledged on this matter. I also represent many students who face the same struggles. I believe that the quality of our education has a huge impact on the future of our nation. That is why it is important to address these issues in a serious manner.
At present, many of us students struggle with long class hours and heavy requirements, yet lack access to quality facilities and updated learning materials. In some public schools, there is a shortage of classrooms, broken chairs, insufficient books, and limited internet access. According to the Department of Education (2025), there is a shortage of over 165,000 classrooms nationwide. Also, the books being used are often more than a decade old. Additionally, based on DepEd data, only 25% of public schools have reliable internet access, which is a major obstacle to adopting modern learning methods. Furthermore, many of our teachers are extremely overworked due to excessive paperwork and reports, leaving them with less time to focus on teaching. In this situation, we students are not receiving an education that meets the demands of the modern era. I hope that priority will be given to improving facilities and providing modern equipment to all schools, especially in remote areas.
I believe that if these problems are addressed immediately, the youth will be better prepared for the challenges of the future. It is not enough to simply hold programs or seminars; concrete action and sufficient funding are necessary. We are willing to take part in projects that aim to raise the quality of education. I hope you will hear the voices of students like me, as we are the ones most affected by the current system. Thank you for your time, and I hope for a swift response to these concerns.
For the students and the teachers,
Student Regent
Ilocos Sur National High School
