We can CHANGE the CLIMATE
Have you ever felt as though you were inside an oven or a refrigerator?
Climate change is a serious environmental issue we are experiencing today. But, the good news is, there are solutions to making a change. Wake up! Because I will take you all on an adventure of stewardship in making a huge difference.
Climate change is a change in the temperature and weather patterns over time. Moreover, this is mainly caused by the greenhouse gasses emitted by human activities, particularly burning fossil fuels. According to the National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA), the planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2 degrees Fahrenheit (1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century. This indicates that the world's temperature is rising every year, more than it has in the past decades.
In the Philippines, It is evident that we are experiencing hotter temperatures, more severe typhoons, increased drought, rise of sea level, and different health risks. Overall, these are all vital signs of what we are facing right now.
We can reduce the impact of climate change by three simple actions. First, the 3Rs, or the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Reducing waste, reusing old things, and recycling materials into useful ones can make a big impact on our daily lives. Second, save energy. Saving energy can reduce our carbon footprints. Lastly, planting trees. When we plant a tree, we plant hope. To sum up, by doing these three simple actions, we can make a big difference.
I am the Vice President of the Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O). I am not only here to voice out my advocacy but also to take action. As I engaged myself in the environment, I learned that we are all capable of creating change. If we work hand-in-hand together we can be stewards in creating a sustainable environment. Thus, making a better future where the next generation will have smiles on their faces.
In conclusion, we can mitigate the effects of climate change. Simple actions always lead to greater change. Be a steward in creating a better future. Remember to think green, act green, and live green. Stand up and make a change!
